Ueli Scheuermeier is Swiss and based in Berne. Since his MSc (agriculture)
at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in 1980 his career has taken
him to work as a trainer and designer of agriculture extension systems and
later generally in diverse settings in rural development in Asia and Africa:
Designing and coaching the setting up of government rural extension
services, village level planning of natural resource management, marketing
of innovative technology for rural electrification and water management,
designing Public-Private-Parnerships, analytical set up for good local
governance issues, SME-coaching in rural settings, ICTs in rural areas,
rural finance and social investment funding, commercialization of services,
etc.
Learning in complex and difficult rural environments has been his main
interest, over the years resulting in a strong push towards commercial
engagement with rural people, and the associated learning requirements.
Clients have included Donor agencies (SDC, GTZ, DED), medium level companies
(Sunlabob in Laos, NIDA in Uganda, Aguatuya in Bolivia), UN agencies (IFAD
and FAO), and the World Bank. The current focus is on solar electrification
in remote areas and water technology, along with Transaction Security
Services in East Africa. The business partnership with Clive Lightfoot has
evolved the Linking Local Learners methodology and platform at www.linkinglearners.net and the concepts and methodology of commercially
viable Transaction Security Services.
